YPRES & BRUGGES

5 Days  £390

Tue 28th August - Sat 1st September 2018

Single Supplement £120

This year marks the centenary of the end of the Great War.  Ypres, our base for the 5 days, has splendid architecture, some of which dates back to the Medieval cloth trade.  The focal point of the town is the Menin Gate, where each evening the Last Post is sounded in a simple but moving ceremony.  We stay at the luxurious Novotel Hotel for four nights bed and breakfast, only 100 m from the Menin Gate. All rooms are en-suite with TV, mini-bar and telephone.

Provisional Itinerary:

Day 1: Early morning departure from the Midlands, travel via Eurotunnel to Calais, arriving in Ypres late afternoon.

Day 2: Full day excursion of the battlefields of the first, second and third 'Battles of Ypres' during the Great War. Including Zonnebeke, Passendale Ridge, Tyne Cot Cemetery, and the Hill 62 trenches.

Day 3: A full day excursion to Brugge, the largest and best preserved medieval town in Belgium and perhaps the world.

* all excursions will return in plenty of time for the 8pm Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate.

Day 4: At leisure in Ypres, an opportunity to take a short bus journey to the neighbouring town of Poperinge.

Day 5: Return to the Midlands.
