Viennese New Year

SYMPHONY HALL

Sunday 3rd January 2027

£65

This concert celebrates the golden age of Viennese waltzes with a programme including – of course – the music of ‘The Waltz King’ himself, Johan Strauss II. The Blue Danube makes an appearance – for what New Year concert would be complete without it? – among a wealth of other musical treats, including the overture to Die Fledermaus and Unter Donner und Blitz: not shorthand for Santa’s reindeers, but Strauss’s ‘Thunder and Lightning’ polka. Dynamic young conductor Tess Jackson leads the CBSO, which is joined by the sensational soprano, Aylish Tynan. This is champagne in musical form.
