The northern fells of Cumbria provide dramatic scenery, history and culture.  Bonnie Prince Charlie, William Wordsworth & Donald Campbell are all part of the fascinating past of this area. We stay for 4 nights half board accommodation at the Shap Wells Hotel that is tucked away in its own grounds that feature a stream, waterfall, woodland and a red squirrel sanctuary. All bedrooms are en-suite with TV, hairdryer, telephone and tea facilities. The hotel has a lift to some floors.

Provisional Itinerary:

Day 1: Mid-morning departure. After a lunch stop in Cheshire we continue due north, arriving at Grange-over-Sands mid-afternoon.

Day 2: Full day excursion. First we visit Bowness- on-Windermere. There will be an opportunity to take a boat cruise on Windermere (fare extra). We then continue north via Ambleside and Rydal Water to Grasmere where there will be ample time to visit the Gingerbread shop and Wordsworth's Cottage. We then return to the hotel and take in views of Thirlmere and Derwent Water

Day 3: A leisurely excursion to Ullswater, followed by time at Keswick. There will be an opportunity to take a cruise on a steamer from Pooley Bridge to Glenridding (fare extra).

Day 4: A morning excursion to the market town of Penrith, returning after lunch time.

Day 5: After a leisurely breakfast we return to the west Midlands.
