The fells of Cumbria provide dramatic scenery, history and culture. Bonnie Prince Charlie, William Wordsworth & Donald Campbell are all part of the fascinating past of this area. We stay for 4 nights half board accommodation at the Cumbria Grand Hotel that has an excellent position in elevated grounds, overlooking the estuary of the River Kent and on a clear day, some of the peaks of the Yorkshire Dales are visible. All bedrooms are en-suite with TV, hairdryer, telephone and tea facilities. The hotel has a lift to all floors.

Provisional Itinerary:

Day 1: Mid-morning departure. After a lunch stop in Cheshire we continue due north, arriving at Grange-over-Sands mid-afternoon.

Day 2: A leisurely excursion to Coniston and the Village of Grasmere. There will be plenty of time to visit Dove Cottage and the Sarah Nelson Gingerbread Shop.

Day 3: Full day excursion. First we visit Bowness- on-Windermere. There will be an opportunity to take a boat cruise on Windermere (fare extra). We then climb the Kirkstone Pass and spend time at Glenridding, which is beautifully set alongside Ullswater. We return via Shap Fell.

Day 4: At leisure in Grange-Over-Sands. Local bus and train services connect with towns further afield.

Day 5: After a leisurely breakfast we return to the west Midlands.
