Normandy offers something for everyone. From medieval architecture in the centre of Caen and Bayeux to the vast expanse of its beaches. From the origins of the last invasion of England in 1066, to the heroism of allied forces in the Second World War. We will stay for four nights, half board accommodation at the modern Novotel Caen Cote de Nacre which is a short tram ride from the historic city centre. It offers a quiet and comfortable base from which to explore this famous part of France. Daytime crossing via Portsmouth-Caen. Please note that this tour has been organised in partnersip with the Kidderminster branch of the Royal British Legion. Our usual tour commentary will have a military history focus.
Provisional Itinerary
Day 1: Early morning pickups for our journey to Portsmouth. We will have a break at services on route. Our ferry is scheduled for 15:00 and a food voucher will be issued at the port to use on board for our evening meal. We are scheduled to arrive in Ouisterham at 22:00 local time, it is approximately 30 mins journey to our hotel: Novotel Caen Cote De Nacre
Day 2: A visit to the historic town of Bayeux* with time to explore the cathedral and the British cemetery and memorial. We then visit Omaha Beach and the Normandy American Cemetery.
*please note that the Bayeux Tapestry Museum is closed for refurbishment
Day 3: A tour along the coast of Normandy, observing Sword Beach at Ouistreham, visiting Courseulles-sur-Mer (for Juno Beach) British Normandy Memorial at Ver-Sur-Mer, and Arromanches-les- Bains (for Gold Beach).
Day 4: A visit to Pegasus Bridge followed by time in the centre of Caen for the castle and William the Conqueror’s tomb etc.
Day 5: Early afternoon departure for our homeward journey via Ouistreham. Our ferry is scheduled to depart at 1630 and arrive in Portsmouth at 2130. A food voucher wiwll be available to spend on board. We should return to Kidderminster by 0100 approx.
