Some 170 miles north of John O'Groats, the Shetland Islands are Britain's most northern frontier. Originally a Viking settlement, they were Norwegian territory until the 15th century, when they were transferred to Scottish rule. This blend of culture, the dramatic landscape carved over the centuries by the Atlantic, and the sparse population all combine to promise a unique and memorable holiday. The overnight ferry from Aberdeen to Lerwick and a two night stay at the modern Shetland Hotel in Lerwick will allow for three full days on the Isles. We shall also stay overnight at the Golden Lion Hotel in Stirling on the outward and return journeys, allowing for a leisurely tour through Royal Deeside en-route. Half board accommodation throughout. Availability of single rooms extremely limited.
